Honda Brings Back the Picnic Table

While the features offered from one model to another often look quite similar, sometimes engineers come up with something truly unique — a stroke of genius, even.

We all remember the Pontiac Aztek's tent or the Toyota FJ Cruiser’s outdoor shower. Honda also made its mark back in the day with the legendary picnic table found inside the CR-V.

Originally, this table served as a rigid floor panel in the cargo area. However, it could be removed and transformed into a picnic table, complete with retractable legs underneath.

A Touch of Nostalgia

Like many automakers, Honda is currently riding a wave of nostalgia, and that may be what motivated the Japanese manufacturer to dig into its archives and bring back one of its most iconic features: the famous picnic table.

This feature will be offered in the next-generation 2026 Honda Passport. Engineers also decided to reposition the accessory to make it more visible. Believe it or not, many CR-V owners never even realized their vehicle came equipped with a picnic table back in the day.

The new table will now be placed directly on the cargo floor or used as a cargo cover, making it doubly useful. It can support up to 44 pounds. This is exactly the kind of feature that adventure lovers will appreciate. That’s why Honda decided to include it in the Passport — the brand’s go-to model for off-the-beaten-path exploration.

Honda has yet to announce the Canadian price for this new option. However, we know that the picnic table for the Passport is priced at $425 USD in the United States. It’s not exactly cheap, I’ll admit, but it’s the kind of feature that’s worth its weight in gold. After all, it’s both functional and nostalgic — a rare combo.
